Exhibitions, Publications and Submissions

Over the last few years Kevin has been fortunate to have some of his images appear in various exhibitions, online and in physical form, both in the UK and Europe, demonstrating his variety of approach to photography.

This last couple of months I have been producing hand-made books. Taking images that might otherwise sit on my hard drive and printing them. Then making a book block with grey board, glue and end papers. Adding a spine and then covers, that at the moment are standard sheets of paper from a bookbinders shop. But now I am seeing images around me that would work when printed as book covers. So more of this to come.

I have also been successful during Summer/Autumn 2026 with submissions to curated exhibitions. With several images accepted across exhibitions across the country including Brighton, Halifax, Epsom, Bristol and Newhaven .

In addition to these phyiscal exhibitions I have images selected for a number of online exhibitions. One on a Black and White theme, one on Motion and another on Still Life and Objects. Images will follow when the exhibitions open in October and November 2026.

I have also had some images accepted for an online magazine on the subject of “Forgotten”. This should be published online at the beginning of November. A link will be provided when available.

Next up after the Evoking Connections Exhibition at GLive is an online exhibition hosted by Allora Gallery. This is on the theme of Motion and opens online on 5th October. (see the poster on the Recent Works page). My image is below.

I will be submitting for more exhibitions in 2027.

At the beginning of November I have another image at an exhibition on the theme of ‘Shelter’ at the Sussex Contemporary Gallery in Newhaven, Sussex. This opens on 7th November 2026.

I have an image in an exhibition that opens towards the end of September at the Circular ArtSpace Gallery at Fishponds in Bristol.

I submitted an article and images for the RPS Landscape Group Newsletter in October as ‘Member of the Month’. The article is below.

Member of the Month: Kevin Goodwin

Our member of the month for September is Kevin Goodwin. As we usually do, we have asked Kevin for his profile, and we enclose a sample of his wonderfully inspiring photographic work. It is a privilege to have such talented photographers in our Group and learn from each other’s experience. 

I have always been interested in photography, although the time available to spend on it has varied, other than in recent years. I owned a Box Brownie as a youngster and after leaving school did an ‘O’ level in Photography at the local college. 

Family then came along and photography became in the main holiday pictures, although I continued for a couple of years with a darkroom in the loft and developing slide film and printing using a large Cibachrome tank, also in the loft. 

Working all my career as a planner, initially for Councils and then as a consultant certainly took me to locations for photography. But the reason for being there prevailed over personal images. 

Eventually retiring from my own practice three years ago gave me the freedom to bring out the photographer in me. Whilst I dabbled in a couple of weddings, model photography and sport I found these clearly weren’t for me in the long term. The countryside and experimentation was calling me. 

So, I turned to landscape photography, the big picture and went on some workshops. I also looked at architecture photography given what I had seen in my career. Whilst personally I produced some acceptable results these aspects of photography didn’t wholly resonate with what I wanted to do. 

So, I drew the field of view in and started looking at more initiate landscapes, texture, form and rust. Oh yes give me rust. This was possibly also influenced by my partner who was taking images of small details on her phone, whilst I was taking the bigger picture on my camera. Suddenly I could see what she saw in the details and shapes and what we collectively called ’T". 

So, with a narrower field of view, I started looking at the detail and texture. Also, whilst doing my O level I had used IR film and so sought to rekindle that interest. So, I had an older camera internally converted and set out to capture images in infrared, but without the constraints of a filter on the lens to achieve this. 

For completeness whilst I hadn’t been particularly interested in ICM or ME I gave it a go, trying to find a deeper creative self. Personally, I have managed to achieve some acceptable images, with one ICM image having recently been selected for an exhibition on neurodiversity. 

Whilst there is very little rust in some newly found local woods there are still shapes and textures. I am looking forward to the punchy colours of Autumn and more experimenting with filters and layers in Photoshop from images taken here. 

Today where and what I seek and take has moved quite a lot from where it was 4-5 years ago and even 12-18 months ago. But I feel better as a photographer for that. I have also this summer had some success with submitting images to galleries for varied exhibitions. 

I shoot mainly with my Nikon Z7ii and for IR a converted Nikon D300. So far as processing I use both LrC and PS.

As part of the successful RPS TWT Woodlands Project in Autumn 2024 I attended three of these walks. I was fortunate to have an image chosen to go into the overall ezine. In addition two of the groups produced their own ezines.

In 2023 Kevin took part in the RPS Talk-Walk-Talk Coastal Experiences Project. He joined other members at Whitstable for a day of photography. One of Kevin’s images was selected for inclusion in the subsequent online RPS Zine.
